The Diminishing Power of the Media, Part I

Keep this simple set of facts in mind when the subject of the strength of the Democratic Party base comes up.
And keep a constant visual of this map in your head when the subject of the power of the media comes up.
There are 3,141 counties in the United States.
Trump won 3,084 of them.
Clinton won 57.
Now look at New York State
There are 62 counties in New York State.
Trump won 46 of them.
Clinton won 16
Clinton won the NY state popular vote by approximately 1.5 million votes.
In the 5 counties that encompass New York City (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received over 2 million more votes than Trump, which means Trump won all the rest of New York State by half a million votes. (Clinton only won 4 of those counties; Trump won Richmond).
Therefore these 4 counties alone more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.
Those 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.
The United States is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles
When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.
Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.) DO NOT and SHOULD NOT be allowed speak for the rest of our country!
Consider that people still pay to see “Lion King”, on stage after 22 years, while “Russian Collusion” was written and directed so poorly it closed after only one performance. Two years of commercial hype couldn’t buy it even a single Sold-Out, SRO performance, not one standing ovation, despite the lavish praise heaped on its leaked script by the majority of the sycophantic Ellsworth Toohey media who tried to drown out the alternative media calling for it to be shut down on opening night.
You’ll need to look up Ellsworth Toohey; he’s part Bilk Kristol, part Gerald Nadler, and part Brian Williams, but the Toohey faction, now the majority of Media, lost big with “Russian Collusion” because investors were so adamant at producing a hit that was greater than “Cats”, they’ve ponied up millions more of other people’s money, willing to stretch their 3-act play into as many acts as necessary if to make it more audience friendly.
The reverse is happening.
“Russian Collusion” media enablers and collaborator’s mistake was in believing this was their first flop. One of their great weaknesses is that they lie to themselves, for in reality, their star-power has been waning for years.
I won’t bore you with a history that is still as fresh to me as a new husband for Lady Margaery Tyrell, but for various reasons the national Media turned inward a long time ago, toward its own class, treating (talking down to) 80% of their viewers and readers as if they were children. How America went from David Brinkley to Anderson Cooper is an interesting tale all by itself, but not for now.
Polling history of media favorability with viewers has showed a steady downward trend of the national Media’s in all the key markers; reliability, truthfulness, objectivity, since the Reagan years. This is what probably caused Fox News to launch in 1996, in the middle of several Clinton scandals (that only got worse), about which the media, at best ran interference.
The Media-Left Alliance (known by a different name in the 80’s) treatment of Ronald Reagan, with a certain tolerance by many in the GOP then as now, long before the term RINO has been coined, had first sired a single solitary advance guard, Rush Limbaugh, eight years earlier, and who probably midwifed a permanent split between followers of the national Media and the alternative media, which has grown wider the pst 30 years.
With the help of Reagan-hatred and the covering up of real crimes in the Clinton Administration, it became obvious that the national media, who had owned both the print-ways and airways since the 1930s, had lost much of its credibility with the people who had known John Cameron Swayze in the 50s and Chet and David in the 60s-70s.
The Media has not gained ground with its audiences these past 30 years since Reagan, although they did regain some reflected self-image with Obama. But the rise of Donald Trump has proved just how illusory that image was, since their ability to move and shape opinion, change peoples’ minds, has continued to diminish, witness the serious faces they are putting on to report the almost comical deportment by the Katzenjammer House Democrats over the aftermath of the Mueller Report and the “Russian Collusion” Broadway flop.
So by the time the script for “Russia Collusion” was ready to hit Broadway, fully 46%-plus of play goers in Americas knew it would be a flop and didn’t even bother to buy a ticket, or worse, to Media insiders, bother to read a review.
That margin has gotten larger, only how much wider no one knows…especially pollsters. The majority of people no longer believe them anymore, only none of the navel-gazing National Media, thanks to the modern miracle of counting clicks, which is their only real way of estimating the width and breadth of their current voice, actually knows how big their audience of followers really is. Or from whence they hail.
The national map (above) should sober them up.
Certain laws of human survival apply here.
Not political survival but human survival, and at the top of the list is that humans can only give a liar two strikes without putting themselves at risk again. It’s a law, even parents for an errant child. They will always love him/her, but they will never believe them, and will also never subrogate their child’s future lies without placing their own survival at risk. We all probably have some personal knowledge. I do, and it ended when the parents finally decided to stop funding a son’s drug habits, and he murdered them.
As I said, it ‘s a law of survival.
A bended knee for forgiveness, a second chance (called a retraction in the news business) is based on the unwritten assumption it will never happen again by the would-be audience. The national media’s audience stopped believing them years ago, and that will remain the case until a new Media either steps forward (I think Fox has let that ship sail, probably a front office vanity) or another reliable way to gather news is developed. Getting news from the horse’s mouth, President Trump, is a unique and effective way, but only so long as he remains honest, for his audience is unforgiving…the two lie rule applies… but I also doubt his method can be bottled for future presidents.)
Today, the map shows you who the gullibles are, who believe because they are indoctrinated or stupid, as well as the cynics, people who are in one way or another in on the con, people who stand to benefit by other people (the red areas on the map) falling for the freshly repackaged lie that they had rejected before.
There’s rarely anything new under the sun.

  1. How dare the people speak for the land?
Votes should be per square foot not per person.
That way the 500,000 sq miles of desert, 80,000 sq miles of national parks, and 1.5 million square miles of farm land could elect their duly deserved president.
Sounds just as ludicrous as this author’s claim. Oh wait, that is the claim.
Let’s show a contextually misleading map and try to brainwash people into our opinion.

  2. Excellent article, Mr. Bushmills.

Our founders do not get nearly enough credit for the constitution they wrought.

The red states will not be ruled by the blue states, which is exactly what will happen with the abandonment of the electoral college. Carry New York, California, and a few other liberal coastal enclaves, and you’ve won.

It also explains the willing importation of the illegal welfare class from third world countries, and their disbursement into the red states in an attempt to turn them “blue” by the Obama administration.

Voter ID should be a non-negotiable requirement for all Federal elections.

Only legal US citizens should be allowed to vote.

  3. Don’t know how I missed this, OM. Thanks for the nice comments, and you’re absolutely right about the hell “they” will have to pay if the try to remove out franchise.
